This wiki is being produced by Lynne Bell, who is a Resource Teacher of Learning and Behaviour in Southland, New Zealand. The wiki will grow and change as time allows.
There are many different ways to learn to spell a word. Some possible strategies are listed below.
* It might be easiest to learn to spell a word by saying the word slowly and listening the sounds you hear.
* It might be easiest to learn to spell a word by remembering what it looks like. i.e. visualising a word like 'said'.
*Sometimes a song, chant or mnemonic (memory) aid will help you remember the spelling of a word. This wiki will help you use this particular strategy.
* Sometimes you can work out a new word by thinking of a word or spelling pattern you already know. e.g. If I know 'look', I can spell 'took'.
* It might be easiest to learn a word by saying all the letter names to yourself. e.g. b-e-c-a-u-s-e This is called 'saying a verbal chain' and can be done in lots of fun ways! Look at the poster for ideas...
